Off-Grid Resort Solar Power System

Bringing reliable, clean energy to a remote island resort through advanced off-grid solar technology and battery storage.

Location: Palawan, Philippines
Date: June 2025

Project Scope

  • 100kW solar panel array installation
  • Battery storage system (400kWh capacity)
  • Backup generator integration
  • Resort-wide energy management system

Results Achieved

  • 100% renewable energy operation
  • 95% reduction in diesel fuel costs
  • Silent, clean power for guest comfort
  • Enhanced resort sustainability credentials

The Challenge

A remote island resort in Palawan was operating entirely on diesel generators, resulting in high fuel costs, noise pollution, and environmental concerns. The resort needed a reliable off-grid power solution that could handle variable loads from guest rooms, restaurants, water treatment, and air conditioning, while maintaining the peaceful island atmosphere guests expected.

Our Solution

We designed a comprehensive 100kW off-grid solar system with 400kWh of battery storage, sized to handle the resort's peak loads and provide multi-day autonomy during cloudy weather. The system includes intelligent load management to prioritize critical systems and a backup generator for extended periods without sun. Solar panels were positioned to blend with the natural landscape while maximizing energy production.

Implementation

Installation required coordinating material delivery by boat and training local staff on system operation and basic maintenance. We installed the solar arrays on specially designed ground mounts and building-integrated positions to minimize environmental impact. The battery system was housed in a climate-controlled room to maximize lifespan in the tropical environment. A sophisticated energy management system prioritizes loads and ensures optimal battery charging.

The Outcome

The resort now operates almost entirely on solar power, with the diesel generators serving only as backup during rare extended cloudy periods. Guests enjoy quiet, clean energy that aligns with the resort's eco-tourism mission. The resort has seen a 95% reduction in fuel costs and has enhanced its marketing as a truly sustainable destination. The system has become a model for other remote resorts considering renewable energy transitions.
